Container Project- Protecting myself through faith

Could you give me a feedback on what I need to do to improve this piece (on shape/form, design, and chain). Thank you.

When I heard that our first project is going to be on a container, I first searched what contain

means. It’s not like I did not know what it meant but I wanted to know if there are more meaning

to contain than what I knew before. I liked the way they defined contain as embody and to keep

within bounds. First thing that struck my mind was I should make a container that could protect

me from all the fear. I decided to use a shield form as my shape because I thought definition of

shield and contain get along well. Shield is to protect the entire body from the attacks whereas

contain is to embody and keep within bounds. For the outer side of my piece, I included scratch

design to make it look like it was attacked just like a real shield. Also I put patina on my piece to

look all gloomy and damaged. For the inside, included a bible verse and praying hand image to

feel protected, and the finish inside would be clear and shiny to give it a look of clean and pure.

My piece could be a necklace and also a handheld piece because I think necklace and

handheld piece well presents the definition of protecting fear. I can carry it around everywhere

and feel protected.

Your craftsmanship overall is well done although there are some imperfections. The most obvious to me is that a shield should be symmetrical. The lip of the inner part of the container is - forgive the hard word choice - sloppy looking due to its imperfections. I understand the difficulty in creating such smooth, geometric shapes but this is purely from the standpoint of results.
Additionally, the chain seems incongruous with the rest of the piece.
Concept-wise, the only notable complaint is that the hands praying on the opposite of the prayer are barely noticeable and real examination is required to find them. This may be an intended choice although I feel as if, from a personal standpoint, they should be very sharply, clearly focused to demonstrate the strength of faith.

I may seem critical but you really have done admirable work with this and it is a well-done piece. The distressing adds far more character and is a good choice. Overall, a good piece.

I like the idea, it is like an amulet, where you might want to hide something precious inside, maybe in your case even a piece of incense. Also I like the idea of having the inside white and shiny and the outside scratched. You talked about the shape with Dawn, I agree with that it is not shield like, although i`m not sure that its the correct image. A shield is flat, and not a hollow form.
On the whole its well made, but maybe it needs a little more general finishing.
Hope that helps, and good luck to you!

I really enjoyed your concept idea. The idea of protecting yourself from fear. The shield idea is good but the piece doesn't look like a shield. The shape and form is good but only having the scratch marks.. i don't get? if you research "shields" they usually have images of the their ruling symbols or signs. Maybe you can incorporate symbols or something that represents you into it? and the inside, I can't really see the image of the hands... can you do thicker lines?

The bible verse is hard to read...

The chain... i think the circles are distracting to the shield. maybe do a long oval or squares? the circles are just too bubbly that it doesn't match the concept.

I hope this helps~ Let me know if you need more!! :) GOOD LUCK!

the concept is really nice
i didnt think about connecting shield and container together which is a very good idea!

the craftsmanship is well done overall but i do agree that it should be symmetrical but at first i didnt really notice it but if you look at it closely you can tell..just need to work on it a little more and it'll be perfect!

question...are the scratches on the outside suppose to represent how the shield has been through a lot and its protecting what is in the inside? am i confusing you? if i am tell me and i'll ask you in person..but its a nice contrast between the outside and the inside

also i couldnt tell on the inside that there were hands that were praying i thought they were scratches and the bible verse is a bit hard to read
the chain i think is okie but i prefer maybe being thinner or smaller or even shorter it feels a bit out of place right now..i like how the chain is on the last picture but not when i see it as a whole..
remember what we learned bout gestalt in modern art history? think bout gestalt and i think it'll help you perfect this project

overall i do like this concept and idea!
keep it up! hwaiting~
